Being inspired by my first visit to Vantra, a vegan restaurant in London, I came away full of new ideas for creating new juices and smoothies and taste sensations. When I awoke this morning I wanted to make a minty smoothie with creamy avocado and maca, a superfood. So Mint n Maca was created….omg! nom nom… if you try one smoothie this week you gotta try this one; as you drink this smoothie, not only do you taste the delicious delicate taste of mint, you experience a creaminess in your mouth from the avocado, almond milk and maca with a subtle hint of lime.
Mint contains no cholesterol however it is rich in vitamins and dietary fibre, which helps to control blood cholesterol and blood pressure, Mint is a good palate cleanser and promotes digestion so great if you feel nauseous. Mint contains vitamin A and is a good source for manganese, copper, and vitamin C.
I love to use super-foods in my smoothies. A superfood is a food that is nutrient dense and offers tremendous dietary and healing potential. The maca root is a superfood and an adaptogen, regulating and supporting endocrine health. Maca does not contain hormones itself, instead it provides a unique set of nutrients that directly fuel the endocrine system and help the glands to produce vital hormones in precise dosages pre-determined by the body. (check with your doctor before using maca if you suffer from heart disease or thyroid problems, or are pregnant or breastfeeding.)
Serves 1 pint glass or 2 small glasses
1 handful of mint
150ml almond milk
1/2 ripe avocado
1 small tablespoon of maca superfood
Juice the apples, kale, cucumber and lime. In a vitamix or blender blend the juice with the mint, avocado, almond milk and maca until smooth.
